Synesthesia
Generative audio reactive-visual system and augmented reality vinyl cover inspired by synesthesia.
This project explores the intersection of sound and generative art through a system inspired by synesthesia. Using microphone input, musical notes are translated into shifting fields of colour, each tone triggering a distinct hue. The result is a reactive, ever-changing visual language that mirrors the rhythm and structure of the music.
Titled Synesthesia, the project extends beyond the screen into physical form. Frames from the generative system were translated into vinyl record sleeves, each cover capturing a moment in the audio-visual dialogue. An augmented reality layer lets users scan the artwork and see it animate, creating an interactive bridge between sound and image.
The identity is minimal and modular, designed to foreground motion and colour. The project proposes a quiet integration of technology and sensory design—linking audio, visuals and touch into a cohesive, generative experience.
Scanning the sleeve activates an AR layer that extends Synesthesia beyond print. The audio translates into shifting colour and motion on-screen, allowing the music to visualise itself in real time. This moment connects the physical record with its generative system, creating a seamless bridge between sound and image.
